AUDITION INFORMATION FOR CURRENT Whs sTUDENTS
wEISS tHEATER RECRUITMENT VIDEO
These instructions are for current Weiss High School students that are wanting to be in an advanced performance class in the 2022-2023 school year.
We know that our students at Weiss have varying amounts of time that they can commit to extracurricular activities, so we offer several advanced class options that allow students to participate in theater based on their commitment level and availability. These classes require an audition and director approval in order to be admitted. This year we are asking students to submit a digital audition form and video of their audition performance by Friday, February 25th no later that 9:00PM.
THEATER 2-4 is an acting class that has a low level of extracurricular commitment. In this class students will learn acting technique and use class time to rehearse at least one full production as the curriculum. (Theater 2-4 students are asked to stay after school 2-4 times during the entire school year.)
THEATER 2-4 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Prepare two one-minute audition monologues that shows off your best skills as an actor/actress. The monologues can be comedic or dramatic, we have no preference. Your monologue should be memorized.
THEATER PRODUCTION is our varsity level acting and performance class. This class has a high level of extracurricular commitment. In this class students will prepare for college acting auditions, learn a variety of acting techniques, and are required to be involved in all Weiss Theater main stage productions as part of their curriculum.
THEATER PRODUCTION AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Prepare two one-minute audition monologues that shows off your best skills as an actor/actress. The monologues can be comedic or dramatic, we have no preference. Your monologue should be memorized.
MUSICAL THEATER is our varsity level class that focuses on training vocal, dance, and acting skills. This class has a high level of extracurricular commitment. In this class students will prepare for college musical theater auditions, learn music theory, receive vocal training, learn a variety of dance genres, and are required to be involved in the annual Weiss main stage musical production.
MUSICAL THEATER 1 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Prepare a song, from a published Broadway musical, that fits your vocal range. You should prepare a cut that is 45-60 seconds in length and memorized. Rehearse your performance of this song and make sure that you are fully prepared to perform it before recording it.
Record your audition using your phone, computer, or any other video recording device. We need to see you in the performance, so please make sure that we have a good view of you in the video.
TECHNICAL THEATER 1 is our entry level technical theater course that is focused on building foundational technical and design skills. Students in Technical Theater 1 will learn have the opportunity to learn in a classroom setting as well as hands-on as they build their technical skills in the scene shop. Technical Theater 1 will teach foundations in scenery, costuming, props, lighting, marketing, hair/makeup, and stage management.
TECHNICAL THEATER 1 AUDITION REQUIREMENT: Create a one-page picture collage in Google Slides that shows us who you are, what interests you have, and what elements of technical theater you are interested in learning more about. Be as creative as possible in this collage!
TECHNICAL THEATER 2-4 is our advanced level technical theater course that is focused on building technical skills through the practical application of working on crews for our main stage productions. Students in this course will continue to learn design skills in scenery, costumes, marketing, hair/makeup, as well as lighting, sound, and stage management.
TECHNICAL THEATER 2-4 AUDITION REQUIREMENT: You must complete Technical Theater 1 with a passing grade in order to be considered for Technical Theater 2-4. All Technical Theater 1 students create a portfolio of their work in class. Submit your Technical Theater Portfolio as your audition for this class. Do not submit incomplete portfolios. Make sure every slide is professional and worthy of this application.
